Pro-Life Apologetics

PRO-ABORTION ARGUMENT:
"Abortion helps solve the problem of overpopulation and raises the quality of life."

PRO-LIFE ANSWER:
The "Quality of life"concept is breeding a sense of human expendability that has far-reaching social implications.

"Quality of life" is a euphemism when applied to those not allowed to live. There is no quality of life for those whose lives are taken. For those allowed to live, life can only become more precarious. Variables such as age, health, or handicap may take one out of the position of priviledge, making him a potential victim of others' quality of life. As Mother Teresa has said, "If a mother can take her child in the womb, what is to stop me from taking you and you taking from me?"

The slippery slope starts with the concept that some lives have more quality than others. Historically, this has always slid society into further human exploitation. Dr. Leo Alexander was a consultant to the secretary of war at the Nuremberg Trials. Writing in the New England Journal of Medicine, he points out that the holocaust began with subtle shift in medical ethics:

Whatever proportions these crimes finally assumed,it became evident to all who investigated them that they had started from small beginnings. The beginnings at first were merely a subtle shift in emphasis in the basic attitude of physicians. It started with the acceptance of the attitude...that there is such a thing as life not worthy to be lived. This attitude in its early stages concerned itself merely with the severely and chronically sick.
Gradually the sphere of those to be included in this category was enlarged to encompass the socially unproductive, the ideologically unwanted, the racially unwanted and finally all non-Germans.
